“I’m the founder of Equatorial Bespoke, a Singapore-based fine jewellery boutique specialising in bespoke designs and high quality, natural-coloured gemstones. The name pays tribute to Singapore, where the brand was founded, and to the Earth, which forms the gemstones at the heart of our work. Our gemstone collection spans rubies, sapphires, emeralds, spinels, and Paraiba tourmalines, as well as tsavorites, mandarin garnets, and more.
My path to fine jewellery began 15 years ago. With my love for gemstones and craftsmanship, I pursued my certification in silversmithing, made jewellery by hand, and ran an earlier brand centred on my own handcrafted work. Today, I lead client consultations, gemstone sourcing, and design development, while working closely with skilled specialist craftsmen throughout production.
Some clients come to us searching for a particular gemstone. Others begin with the story of someone dear to them, or a memory or milestone that they want their finished piece to symbolise. Before any designing happens, I spend time to understand who my client is, their story, their style, what they’re drawn to, their lifestyle, and the essence the jewellery should capture.
We take pride in bringing knowledge to our clients so that they can make the best decisions for the goals that they have in mind. We explain how colour, clarity, cut, carat weight, origin, treatment, rarity, and market demand affect gemstone value. We also explain how design complexity, metal weight, stone setting, finishing, and local craftsmanship affect production costs.
The gemstones are usually what first makes people stop. What I want them to notice next is the high quality of our gems and the fine jewellery we create. One constant is our ever-expanding collection of exceptional natural coloured gemstones and includes stones for deeply personal commissions and exceptional examples with strong collector interest.
We are planning to expand our ready-to-wear collection with more gemstone-led designs that carry the presence and detail of high jewellery, while remaining versatile enough for regular wear. Bespoke commissions will remain at the heart of the business, but a broader collection will allow more people to encounter our design language.
I have a clear direction for the brand, but I do not believe every step must be fixed years in advance. It is important to listen to clients, observe how the market evolves, and respond thoughtfully. Being deliberate while remaining adaptable allows us to protect our standards and pursue the right opportunities when they arise.”
