Portfolio CBS Golf 2023

07 Sep 2023

The bespoke flagship event grows from strength to strength.

Thought leaders and game changers of industry and business gathered on Thursday 27th July 2023 for the third staging of Portfolio Magazine’s flagship golf tournament, which having grown from strength to strength, saw the event rebranded from this year as the Portfolio CBS Golf tournament, in partnership with the Credit Bureau of Singapore. It was a day of golf networking as the business and luxury lifestyle like-minded gathered at the prestigious Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course, long the home of the Singapore Open. This challenging par 72 masterpiece set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Singapore cityscape is one of the top championship courses in Asia and ranked within the Top 100 of the world’s best golf courses. At 6,775 meters long, The Serapong is all about strategy with bunkering that frames the landing areas on most holes.

Well-guarded greens make for some tucked pin locations on the slick undulating surfaces. The highly curated Portfolio CBS Golf 2023 presented golfing guests with four opportunities of scoring a Hole-In-One prize at each of the par 3s on The Serapong. Hole 2 featured a Cornerstone Wines wine cellar complete with 120 bottles of wine worth $8,888, Hole 8 had the Corum sponsored 18K white gold Golden Bridge watch worth $95,000, while $30,000 worth of W. Atelier luxurious designer furnishings awaited a Hole-In-One at Hole 17.

Hole 14 which is flanked by the waters of the Singapore port on the left and a large lake wide and to the right, is a deceptive par three that plays long and into a testing green and slopes severely away from the harbor. Par is a good score on this hole especially if the wind is up, but a Hole-In One is best. And it was at the 14th Hole that everyone put their best swings to the ball in an attempt to score a winning Hole-in-One, for at stake was the BMW 735i worth $493,888 (excluding COE). The stately and luxurious 735i exudes pure presence with a progressive, bold and unmistakable style. Swarovski crystal headlights and a luxurious lounge atmosphere ensure a premium driving experience that the golfer may arrive at the country club in style and comfort.

Keeping golfers engaged during the course of the game were numerous curated and novelty challenges. For Nearest-The Line at Hole 5, Mark Yip won a TaylorMade Milled Grind 3 wedge. Nearest-The-Pin at Hole 3 was Eddie Lo, who won a TaylorMade Milled Grind 3 wedge, while Jonathan Ng picked up a TaylorMade City Tech Boston Bag for being nearest the pin at Hole 8. At Hole 14 and Hole 17, Mervyn Fong and Simon Sim were awarded a TaylorMade Stealth fairway metal and Garmin Approach S42 GPS Golf Smartwatch respectively. The short par-5 Hole 12 was where golfers only needed to drive the ball Over The-Line to stand a chance at winning a TaylorMade Stealth 2 Driver. Nicholas Goh turned out to be the lucky one for his effortless drive past the 180m mark.

Hole 18 was made famous by Paula Creamer’s downhill snaking 75ft winning putt seen around the world, and this was where golfers had the exclusive opportunity to try out the newly launched TaylorMade TP Reserve Putters - refined premium milled putters that are a blend of detailed precision, classic styling and awe-inspiring aesthetics delivering a softer feel and crisp sound. The curated Putter Luck Next Time challenge saw golfers putting from 3 different starting zones with the closest to the hole dubbed the winner. Samuel Ng and Kevin Foo were the only ones to sink their putts and TaylorMade graciously decided to reward both with a TP Reserve Putter each, worth $825

The results were close for the tournament, with all top three golfers scoring 38 points based on the Double Peoria scoring system. Anthony Mo emerged as 2nd runner-up, winning a $300 BOSS voucher, Garmin Approach S42 GPS golf smartwatch and trophy. 1st runner-up is Mark Yip, who received a $500 BOSS voucher, Garmin Approach S42 GPS golf smartwatch and trophy. And the champion golfer of Portfolio Golf 2023 is Dev Dhiman, who was rewarded with a $1,000 BOSS voucher, the latest Garmin Approach S70 GPS golf smartwatch and trophy. Many congratulations to all our deserving winners.

Libation courtesy of The Glen Grant, Campari RARE and Carlsberg kept conversation convivial during the evening, and congratulations are in order for Dr KK Chew who was fortunate to bag the evening’s top lucky draw prize of a set of TaylorMade Stealth Irons Set and Flextech Lite Stand Bag worth $3,090. Delighting golfers were also two special draws. Winning a 3-day 2-night BMW Experiential Drive in the iX was Lenz Tan, while Lawrence Chan drew the winning straw for a 3-day 2-night BMW Experiential Drive in the stately i7. Winning the Campari RARE Suite Experience at Attico which includes a live bar and personal chef for up to 6 persons worth $1,600 was celebrity golfer Tay Ping Hui. Portfolio CBS Golf 2023 was a highly curated and enjoyable success yet again, made possible because of the friendships and partnerships of valued guests, partners and sponsors.
