Banking On Young Talent

11 Jun 2025

On 10 April 2025, VP Bank hosted an intimate gathering at ParTee Golf in Singapore — an event designed not just to showcase its long-standing support of women’s golf, but also to introduce guests to a rising local talent, Chen Xingtong. The young Singaporean golfer was recently extended a sponsor’s invitation to compete in the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open, part of the Ladies European Tour.

Now in its sixth year as title sponsor of the tournament, VP Bank continues to demonstrate its commitment to the sport and to nurturing promising talent. This event brought together key clients and partners in an informal setting, with virtual golf simulator challenges on a simulated version of the Golfpark Holzhäusern course — the same course where the tournament will be held later this year.

“We are thrilled to support Chen Xingtong,” said Urs Monstein, VP Bank’s Group CEO. “She’s a remarkable young athlete, and her dedication and discipline are deeply inspiring. Sponsoring her is part of our broader belief in long-term partnerships and helping young people unlock their potential.”

Chen shared candidly what the invitation has meant to her. “I was surprised when I first heard,” she shared. “To be recognised in this way is a real honour. It motivates me to work even harder and reminds me that my efforts are seen.”

For many young athletes, opportunities to play overseas are rare and often out of reach. Support from organisations like VP Bank provides the means to focus on performance without the logistical or financial barriers. “It’s not just about access,” Chen added. “It’s about being able to focus fully on the game.”

Throughout the event, guests had the chance to speak with both Chen and the bank’s leadership, gaining insight into the values that drive VP Bank’s partnerships. In conversation, Mr Monstein reflected on the parallels between sport and banking: Resilience, strategy, and consistency. “Just as every shot in golf counts, so does every decision in wealth management,” he said. “We work closely with our clients to develop tailored solutions, and that kind of focus and planning mirrors the mindset of a top-level athlete.”

The bank’s leaders also touched on how events like these allow them to create deeper connections with clients. “We believe in offering thoughtful and differentiated experiences,” said Reto Marx, Co-Head Singapore and Chief Risk Officer Asia. “And we’re proud to support young people like Xingtong as they move forward in their journeys.”

Thomas Rupf, Co-Head Singapore and Chief Investment Officer Asia, noted that the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open has become an important platform for women’s golf. “This initiative in Singapore is part of our broader commitment to creating meaningful links between business, sport and the communities we serve,” he said.

Founded in 1956, VP Bank is headquartered in Liechtenstein and has offices in Zurich, Luxembourg, Singapore, and the British Virgin Islands. Known for its work with high net worth clients and intermediaries, the bank has received industry recognition for its boutique approach to private banking and client service.

Its continued support of the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open reflects more than a branding strategy. It signals an intention to back emerging talent in a sustainable, long-term way. With nearly half a million viewers tuning into the tournament each year, the platform has proven effective in spotlighting both established and rising players in the sport.

For Chen, this new chapter is both an encouragement and a responsibility. And for VP Bank, it’s another step in a broader effort to champion ambition and progress. Quietly, but with purpose.
