Jaguar’s ultimate performance SUV delivers all the practical requirements of a family vehicle – but with loads of thrills and touches of luxury
“Test driving the Jaguar F-PACE SVR was exhilarating,” enthuses Peter Mah, VP for Global Sales at V-Key, a software-based digital security solutions provider. “The drive was fantastic,” he says, and although brief, it allowed him to discover several outstanding features of the car.
The Jaguar Land Rover SVR range is distinguished by a V8 engine with an output of 575 horsepower. In this instance, the F-PACE SVR is powered by a 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 Petrol engine delivering 550PS and 680Nm of torque, accelerating from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds, and a top speed of 283km/h.
The Jaguar F-PACE SVR’s impressive presence is at once evident in the exterior, with its strong aesthetic lines and details that immediately convey power and dynamism. “The Jaguar F-PACE SVR is a big car – just look at those wheels,” Mah exclaims. “The red-colored brakes caught my eye instantly. And the profile calls to mind a jaguar, the animal – always ready to pounce, just waiting to be unleashed.”
Power from The Get-Go
As Mah stepped into the car and eased himself onto the seat, he felt a snug yet comfortable fit. He noticed how well it supported his body at the right points, and how the adjustment mechanisms were within easy reach. “What hit me next, of course, was how the dashboard appeared. The cockpit was all digital, which is always nice. The readouts were clear, thanks to the highly legible graphics on the fairly large screen. Another thing that impressed me most was the finishing. The leather was of great quality – I could tell by the way it felt, looked and smelled.”
“The moment I put my hands on the steering wheel, I felt I made it! I'm here! I'm the boss!” But an even bigger surprise awaited Mah as he started the engine. “There was this big, phenomenal growl! I love cars with that characteristic. It shows the sporty aspect of the vehicle and hints at the powerful engine in it. That really gave me the feel of the car – it was full of power and ready to spring up.” Mah returns to the jaguar for comparison: “It's a silent beast that's ready to lunge forward with full force. When I floored the car, it really jumped out and hurled forward. The big growl of the engine, even the exhaust, was amazing. In fact, I turned off the radio and told myself that I got to listen to the sound because it was music in itself.”
Mah is equally impressed by the car’s handling. “The Jaguar F-PACE SVR a big and heavy vehicle, but somehow it felt very light. I think the power steering and the dynamic suspension made it very easy to maneuver. When I was on the highway, I overtook other cars with just a quick flick of the steering wheel. Despite that, the vehicle felt steady and firm on the ground. The suspension kept me grounded while providing me with a feeling of the push of power as I drove.”
A Family that Drives Together
Mah and his family enjoy taking road trips to Malaysia. “My three children are now able to sit through the entire journey, but they need comfortable seats because it's at least a four-hour drive – not counting that possibility of getting stuck in the Causeway for another hour or so. Roominess becomes important here, and the F-PACE has plenty of that. Even the boot has space for a few pieces of luggage and some golf bags. It's a 5-seater after all, which means it meets the needs of my family.”
Driving and sitting positions, the layout of the instrumentation, and the visibility of gauges are important on long drives, Mah highlights. “That is probably the key buying criteria for me: I love to have information thrown at me – the integrated maps, the weather information, the digital gauges that go beyond the speed and the RPM. They help you drive better and safer.”
In the end, Mah concludes that the Jaguar F-PACE SVR would make an ideal family car. “It would ferry all of my family. This is a car that we would be spending a lot of time in. We’re a very close family, so we tend to go out quite often and we do things together – from driving to a restaurant or a supermarket to unconventional places we like to visit like the wetlands in Malaysia. We like to explore new places, so this car, with power and functionality, can take us around.”
