The Khoon story began with founder Ang Jui Khoon, whose belief in perseverance and hard work shaped the company’s early identity. After experiencing setbacks in the private sector, he made the pivotal decision to focus on public projects, ensuring greater payment security and stability. This choice not only safeguarded the business but also aligned it with a mission to support Singapore’s public housing landscape.

Today, with a track record spanning more than three decades, Khoon Group’s engineering expertise powers approximately one in every five HDB units – a testament to its role as a long-term partner in building safe, reliable homes for Singaporeans.

The baton was later passed to his son, Jansen Ang, who left a stable career in the semiconductor industry to join the family business during one of its toughest chapters. Immersing himself in the trade, he led Khoon Group into a new era of growth and transformation, guided by resilience, prudence, and openness to change. His leadership underscores the Group’s enduring philosophy: Adapt to thrive, welcome fresh perspectives, and build for generations to come.

Khoon Group’s impact has been most visible in the evolution of public housing. A defining milestone was its involvement in Singapore’s first smart-enabled HDB estate at Punggol Northshore. The project introduced smart distribution boards and sockets that allow homeowners to monitor energy usage, reflecting the company’s commitment to innovation while remaining true to its core focus on public residential developments.

Innovation, however, extends beyond smart housing. Khoon Group has invested heavily in digital tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and advanced procurement systems, improving efficiency and accountability across projects.

Looking ahead, the company is also exploring artificial intelligence to streamline site operations, minimise manual tracking, and enhance transparency. These investments ensure Khoon Group remains relevant in a rapidly changing industry where sustainability, technology, and new ways of living reshape the built environment.

This spirit of adaptability was especially evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Khoon Group’s teams worked alongside the government to build dormitories for migrant workers and temporary quarantine facilities. Despite the heightened risks, the company stepped up as an essential service provider, underscoring its commitment to both community and country in times of need.

Looking ahead, Khoon Group’s vision is not just about business growth, but about legacy. The company strives to foster a culture of innovation and resilience, ensuring its work continues to shape homes and communities for future generations. By welcoming new ideas, nurturing young talent, and embracing sustainability, Khoon Group is committed to building a future where engineering excellence supports both the nation and the people who call it home.
