This year at the Salone del Mobile Milano, the newly minted and the enduring classic make an interesting collection for Meridiani

This year at the Milan Furniture Fair, Italian luxury furniture brand Meridiani showcased a range of new products alongside the latest iterations of its classic lines. Among the outstanding pieces it presented were the new Norton Capitonnè sofa and the Verner storage unit, as well as the Isetta chair and the Hubert dining table. Collectively, these pieces signify Meridiani’s superior expertise in design and manufacturing as well as in imbuing timeless classic designs with a breath of stylish modernity.

For the Fair, Mr. Andrea Parisio, the brand’s designer and art director, recreated an ideal apartment in a series of rooms tied together by dark red Cherry and night Navy, as well as gray walls, floors and carpets. Meanwhile, large panels of Tobacco oak provide a chromatic punctuation to the space and its array of products.

Designed as a new standalone piece, Norton Capitonnè is a sofa with a full capitonnè or padded fixed cover. The voluptuous piece is supported by a wooden frame; a non-deformable polyurethane padding ensures the stability of its shape. The piece, with integrated backrest and armrests is balanced on black ABS feet. Optional additions include a lumbar cushion filled with reinforced feathers as well as a square pouf. A selection of textured fabrics or leather are the recommended coverings for the sofa.

Another new product this year is the Verner wooden sideboard with doors and a freestanding frame. Verner is easily transformed into a range of modular possibilities with the addition of units that include shelves and chest of drawers. Meanwhile, end units give the piece a dynamic twist by providing options for aligned or angled arrangements.

The supremely comfortable Isetta chair is distinguished by a lightweight padded seat and a backrest upholstered in durable textile. These two components are supported and held together by a varnished tubular metal frame that rises to the lower part of the backrest. The enveloping frame is finished in either black matt varnish or in matt or glossy lacquer.

Finally, the Hubert dining table answers the quest for a simple, elegant table. This piece pairs a linear tubular iron frame and a tabletop that comes in different sizes and shapes including round, oval or rectangle – the last with tapered and slightly rounded ends to resemble a cuttlefish bone. A version with an under-top, also referred to as the second tabletop, and one with small brass tip in the frame are available.

With Meridiani’s vast range of fabrics and leathers, upholstered pieces such as the Norton Capitonnè sofa and the Isetta chair are easily customized. A selection of finishes also expands the choices for the tables and storage units.
