A sunken section of the poolside provides a partial underwater glimpse of the pool
Not just for swimmers, the pool deck is furnished with different types of furniture to encourage a number of activities
Located in the quiet village of Tying Tutul, Canggu, the south coast of Bali, Hakuna Matata is spread out on a rolling landscape bounded by dense growth and paddy fields. Designed by architect Felipe Gonzalez Jimenez de la Espada of Sukyf Architecture & Art Dubai, it is a landmark development that embraces both the spirit of the place and its natural environment.
An infinity pool on the edge of a terraced garden looks out to the remainder of the property
Tropical plants replace walls in this corner by the stairwell to encourage natural ventilation while creating privacy

A series of enclosed and open spaces define the villa's aesthetic that seek to bring the outdoors indoor
Double glass doors provide uninterrupted views to the luxuriant vegetation surrounding the villa
The client wanted a home with a distinctly modern design that incorporates the natural environment. This translated into a mandate that trees will not be cut, undulating terrain will not be flattened, and streamflow will remain unhindered. The built space should also generate the qualities of a home - familiar, warm and comfortable - yet beautifully articulated. "We were informed from the beginning that the client wanted the plan to embrace the Balinese essence with a harmonic flow and balance, taking advantage of the sunset over the paddies from every corner," de la Espada says.
Flexible, modular seating allows everyone to join in on the conversation or contemplate the distant views outside
When the project was completed in July 2018, de la Espada and his team unveiled a contemporary interpretation of the Balinese architectural style, with ample openings for enjoying the view. They also built a spectacular 164-ft infinity swimming pool and dotted the property with outdoor entertainment spaces.

Hakuna Matata has an aggregate floor area of 10,225.7sq ft. Each of the villa's six bedrooms has an ensuite toilet and bath. The facilities include a kitchen, outdoor and indoor dining and living areas, a sunken lounge by the pool, and a cinema. It also has a private gym, a security outpost and an ample garage.
